Your mission is: 1) What you do with your life? and 2) Why you do it?
These two can be very difficult to answer if you do not pray about it.
For me, I have many ambitions, many goals, and many ideas about what I would like to do and where I would like to be, but I do not have a clear cut answer. And I believe a great portion of that is because I have not dedicated my future to God in prayer. Only God knows where I can truly be and truly succeed. So if you are like me and lack prayer in your life, I am going to pray that we can place prayer as a huge priority in our lives.
I finished praying right now and God told me how huge communication is. Communication in a relationship is a part of caring, is a part of listening, and is a part of loving (There's probably more).
When Adam and Eve hid from God because of their sin and disobedience, it must have been hard for Adam and Eve to lose that honesty. And how true it is for any of us to face the truth than to keep letting lies mold into something more gross, stinkier, and result in you throwing it away.
As for me, I have let certain relationships and friendships go bad all the way to the trash bin. And that hurts me to share this. So if you can pray for me about this, I would greatly appreciate it.
Going back, Adam was superior over the animals and God showed that by giving Adam the responsibility to name them. Yet, was Adam's mission to be a gardener in the Garden of Eden? Absolutely not!
So when you think about your career, do not think that this is your sole mission in life. Jesus' mission was not to be a carpenter, it was to give the greatest Christmas gift, Himself, by enduring the cross and taking up all of our sins for us to be able to be with Him in Paradise.
Adam's mission and ours as well is to have a relationship with God.
I will teach you two Hebrew words. Bara and Asa.
Bara means to create out of nothing. Asa means to make (from existing material). I say this because when God creates man, it is asa. And in Genesis 2:18, God is also using asa when he says He will make Adam a helper. This is important because Eve is not created separate from Adam, but created out of Adam.
So know that your mate will fit you like Gap jeans. You may have less patience, but your mate will have more.
Now what type of help would Adam need? Again, this help will not be on his job, but mission. He does not need Eve to help him garden, he needs Eve to help him fully understand love and loving God.
So the mate God will give you is to help you understand love and also to help you love God more.
Graves says, "When God declares that Adam needs Eve, He's speaking about this chief purpose. He's saying: Adam, the romance that you and your wife will share will enable you to know and enjoy and love Me more fully."
Graves says there are four ways a mate helps:
1) Your mate can help you draw closer to God and more fully understand what it is to love and be loved.
2) Your mate can assist you as you fulfill your calling in life, helping you to serve God better.
3) Your mate will help you reproduce godly seed.
4) Your mate will give you spiritual reinforcement.
The third help is interesting because Graves says that the Great Commission to go and make disciples does not apply on just strangers, but it starts in our homes. This is huge because any relationship outside your faith will destroy this help. It will destroy all the helps. Definitely if you are a parent or plan on being one, know that you will be helping your children understand love and loving God.
I want to note that we should embrace the differences between men and women. Graves reiterates, "By design, men and women are indisputably different, but we come together-in God's plan-as a matching set. Everything that God subtracted from the man is in the woman. When we understand that equation, criticism turns to appreciation. Instead of finding fault with our differences, we can enjoy them."
Ok, I do this, so if you are single and maybe for couples as well, do not wait to love God more, love God more now. God knows what type of help you need, but you need to help yourself by loving on God because you will start to see what type of help you will need.
I will end with a verse for you to digest. (Please do not vomit this verse out of your mouth).
"He who finds a wife finds a good thing and obtains favor from the Lord." (Proverbs 18:22 NASB).

Anton, in regards to the following comment:

Do you mean that having a relationship with a nonChristian will destroy all the helps (and what are all the helps?), or simply that if one has parents who are not Christian, then he or she will not receive a proper upbringing? Or at least, not an ideal upbringing?
